About Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport was created due to the necessity of the State to provide flight services to users and military assistance. This airport has gone through several construction stages, therefore it has been modified with the main purpose of providing better service and hosting more passengers, and it is still under construction for expanding Terminal 1. There are 7 international airports in Switzerland, but Zurich Airport is the largest one of them, hosting over 30 million passengers per year, although it is prepared to provide service to more than 50 million.

It is located in the north of Canton Zurich, exactly 13km (8 miles) from the center of this city; it is a part of 5 different municipalities: Kloten, Rumlang, Oberglatt, Winkel, and Opfikon.
Zurich Airport Layout
There are 3 terminals at this airport, they are known as A, B, and E. They all share an Airside (view to all flights that arrive and depart) and an Airport Center with shopping stores, parking and bus areas, check-in desks, and a railway station.
Each terminal passenger is gathered at the lounges waiting rooms which are reachable once they pass immigration control doors.
Terminal A started operating in 1971 and is only used for national flights, more specifically to Schengen Area. Gates from this terminal include the letter “A” before the number. This terminal is programmed to be demolished in 2024.
Terminal B was opened in 1975 and used for national flights only. It was reconstructed and reopened in 2011 offering flights to Schengen and non-Schengen destinations. The gates for this terminal are distinguished with the letters “B” and “D”.
Terminal E is only used for international flights and has the prefixed E at each gate of this terminal. It is also connected to the Airside Centre by the Skymetro service which is underground transportation that takes passengers to all other gates.
